Whether it’s in business, career, or marketing, we ought to know how trust is built, and how it’s destroyed – simply because trust is a precursor to money and financial success.

I had a fantastic time working with a particular editor at Nintee, let’s call him Nick for the purposes of this post.

Nick and I worked together to grow Nintee’s instagram channel to 150k+ followers in under 6 months. We had great chemistry; we’d understand each other really well. I kept in touch with him post nintee – just so we could collaborate again, whenever opportunity strikes.

Most recently, I reached out to him for freelance video editing at STOQ. We discussed the project and I gave him the raw files – he said he started working on them, only to come back 2 weeks later to say this –

Now, it won’t make much of a difference to me because we had already gotten more than 600+ applications for the role. I reached out to him directly precisely because there was trust between us.

Now that he has destroyed the trust and demonstrated lack of professionalism, do you think I’ll ever go back to him?

Trust works because it makes life easier.

Humans are wired to take the shortest mental path.

Not only will it take me more effort to find a good candidate out of the 600+ applications, he’ll have a hard time finding good opportunities in the future because he just destroyed his career capital.

Key Takeaway

Reliability is your brand equity. And your word, response time, and consistency are your personal marketing.
